This weekend

Well, I’m not going to race this weekend. I don’t feel like it. I just want to relax. Jill and I are going to Kansas City. I may take my bike and get a couple of rides in. I might even cruise over and watch a Tour of KC race or 2. But mostly, I’m going to eat barbecue.

Anybody have any suggestions on where’s your favorite BBQ place in/near KC? I’ve been to Arthur Bryant’s. It’s good. Maybe they’ll have a Famous Dave’s or a Tony Roma’s down there. A boy can dream.

Arthur Bryant's is my favorite, too. Another good one is Gate's "HI MAY I HELP YOU" BBQ. They have a few locations, but the one I typically go to is off State line road, right next to "Rib Tech".
If you're looking to go for something beyond BBQ, try a half order of deep fried chicken gizzards at GoChickenGo! . This place used to be a gas station, and you could still see the island where the pumps were. Really, there is no better backdrop than an old gas station to eat gizzards. Normally, I hate gizzards, but I make a special trip to get some of these chewy snacks when I'm in the area.

I like Arthur Bryant's best as well. Gates' meat is good, but I don't like the sauce. It's a little spicier than I like -- I prefer a sweeter, smokier mix.

Check out the WWI museum if you have time, too. It was finished in December -- there's some cool stuff in there.

Ok, so it's unanimous. I will get the burnt ends from Arthur Bryant's. I talked to a guy from KC. He highly recommends Dirk's Sports bar for food in general. So that's lunch tomorrow. For BBQ, he says Gate's is his personal favorite. I like very spicy, which he and Bryan both mentioned, so we'll see. I'll let you know what I think in case you get down that way. I will probably be able to squeeze in the WWI museum thing. Sounds cool. I'm out until Monday at which point, I'll most likely be in the market for a new liver.

Thanks.

Dude, when I was doing my warm up for Friday Nights Crit (which was very cool)I rode past a Go Chicken and I could smell the gizzards frying all the way on the other side of the street, of course the problem with a late night crit , by the time the race was over Go Chicken was closed.
