I'm leaving The U.P.

I'm going to go write programs somewhere else now. Oh yeah, and Mike? Erik Estrada says to remember what he told you.

Wow! That's a big deal.I mean, that's great for you and all, but the lunch time rides! It was the last thing that kept me from going bonkers. Oh yeah, this isn't about me. But who will I be able to send my bcc to when I reply to Lyndon's appeal for the United Way? Right! ... um ... congratulations, I'm really happy for you...you asshole! Man, this really blows. You deserve it. I'm happy for you. I hate you. We're going to miss you. I hate everything. Could you please reconsider? Stop. Put your pencil down. We've called security. Leave everything at your desk. We'll buy you a fresh cup of coffee across the street after you've safely exited the building.

Seriously, Fred, what gives?

The internet answer:
I am kind of surprised by it myself. I never thought I would leave The U.P. I am happy there and have a lot of friends. I like what I do. I was not looking to leave. I got a call from a guy I used to work with like 7 years ago. The job I'll be doing is pretty much the answer to the question "What would you do if you had a million dollars?"
It's C++ (not Java) Linux (not windows) really cool parallel system coding (not J2EE). These "nots" are kind of the direction The U.P. is going (at least in my corner of The U.P.). And although it's ok, it's not really my cup o' joe. Oh and it's a lot more money.

I'll miss the lunch rides. I'm just hoping there are people at the new place that email the entire organization to complain about people who email the entire organization. That will lessen the impact of the move from The U.P.

Oh - and I don't really say "The U.P". I just think it's funny because a lot of people do.

Congrabulations! More money and sticking with your bread and butter? Not bad my friend.

So how does Linux run on a Mac? Or does it? I have always wanted to have a Linux box just to test it out. I love the hippie idea of free-ware. And a free OS? That's amazing.

Again, good job on the, uh, job.
